Having been involved in choral direction for a number of years, the composer became conscious of the fact that beautiful as they are, many of the settings of these words are beyond the scope of the "average" parish choir, being either too high, too fast, or simply too complex. This simple setting combines a strong melody with effective part-writing which seeks to say something new about these words.
