Pauline Johnson wrote this poem describing the opening of the west by railroad. The journey west, by those looking for the new, the exciting, and gold. The journey east was to home and comfort. All of this is written into this brilliant choral work. The first half of the piece focuses on the men, the second the women. A very enjoyable work.
