This work retains the melody of this beloved and faithful hymn of truth and encouragement as it progresses through four slight harmonic variations, each with unique characteristics. The first verse captures an older shaker style of the melody and moves into lush progression with a vocal solo. The third verse is in round and approaches a more contemporary portrayal of harmonies reminiscent of barbershop quartet, but with an edge, that when mastered, provides a beautiful progression to a full ending. Each verse has its own personality and should transition smoothly with little delay between the last 2 verses. This is a work that audiences will love both in sacred and secular settings.
