Richard's career as a composer spans
more than thirty years from his early days as a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral. His instrumental and choral works have been
performed by musicians on both sides of
the Atlantic, recorded on CD and
published.

the 2003 CD by Piano40 (Regent Records) and featured in an article in the Observer on Sunday.
His work Cave Paintings was recorded in Canada by the group Ephyra
for their debut CD Modern Standards the same year that Michael Varner, professorof percussion at The University of Texas, Arlington, premiered Susvar for solo
marimba. Susvar has since been toured by Michael. In 2006 he was commissioned by The Cheltenham Bach Choir to write a work for
their Gloucestershire Composers concert. Venues have included The Dome,
Brighton, Arundel Cathedral, Chichester Cathedral (a thirty minute work for
orchestra and chorus to mark the millennium), Gloucester Cathedral,
The South Bank Centre, the Millennium Dome, The Banff Centre, Canada, The
University of Texas, Arlington, USA, The Anvil, Basingstoke, The Assembly Hall,
Worthing and others.....
In 2009 he was awarded an FLCM in composition.
