Composer, educator, and choral artist Sarah Quartel is a recent graduate of both the Theory and Composition and Education programs at the University of Western Ontario. Having received her first composition award at the age of 8, Sarah celebrates the musical potential of young learners and dedicates her days to providing elementary school students access to high quality music education. Sarah is currently Composer-in-Residence for the women’s vocal ensemble Project Sing!; choral artist with Woodstock Fanshawe Singers and Project Sing!; published under Lighthouse Music Publications and Vocal Music Teacher with the Thames Valley District School Board of Education, London, Ontario.
Recent credits include an Ontario Arts Council grant supporting a large choral, spoken word and dance work for the La Jeunesse organization of choirs; research and composition for the National Film Board of Canada; performance selection in North/South Consonance’s composition competition including premiere in New York City; works recorded on the University of Western Ontario’s 125th anniversary compact disc Echo, Project Sing’s album The World Awaits, La Jeunesse Girls Choir’s Jeunesse Elemental and the upcoming release by Women’s Spirit Song (Spring 2008); the score for the animated short Variations on a Banana; and a host of choral commissions and performances including those by award winning Canadian conductor Jennifer Moir, Brainerd Blyden-Taylor and professional ensembles Rajaton and Nathaniel Dett Choral.
