Commissioned by the Georgian Bay Concert Choir in 2007 as a piece that would reflect the city of Owen Sound, Ontario's history, The Long Journey portrays several different backgrounds without being specific to any of them, making it accessible to choirs in general.  Treble voices are given a line independent of the soprano line which highlights their unique vocal qualities. The 2007 orchestration is written for 1.1.1.1  1.2.2.1  timp./perc. 4.4.3.2.2

In 2017, the Bach Festival of Canada commissioned a larger orchestration of this work, complete with SATB soloists, choir, and full orchestra.

The 2017 orchestration is written for 2.2.0.2  2.2.2.0  Timp./perc  4.4.3.2.2
