These two sketches for orchestra and piano are an "evocation" of music related to film. These are “musical paintings” evoking the character of Babass, a French humourist. The first piece, "Babass, the Poet," is written in an atmosphere that is both playful and poetic, while the second, "Babass, the Sad Clown," is, in contrast, sad and meditative.
