composer: César Franck
orchestrator: Serge Ollive
Flute, oboe, B flat cl., bassoon, 2 horns, 4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, bass
Originally written as one of a set of organ works, Prière begins with a quiet prayer-like opening section in the minor key. As the work progresses, it grows, reintroducing the opening theme in a more triumphant manner before quietly returning to its initial mood. A powerful and moving work that has been brilliantly orchestrated by French composer Serge Ollive. This orchestration allows the musicians to all be soloists in their own right, and is suitable for performance by chamber orchestra.
